Mix Diskerud has suggested that New York City FC is the only team in New York.
As the Manchester City-owned NYCFC prepare for their debut MLS fixture against fellow newcomer Orlando City SC this weekend, midfielder Dikserud took the chance to send a warning to already established crosstown rivals the New York Red Bulls.
"Right now, I just have a message for all New Yorkers: New York City FC is your team," said the USA international.
"I hate the Red Bull," he added with a grin.
Diskerud, who joined NYCFC from Norwegian club Rosenborg during the off-season, was also urging all the new fans of the club to get behind them when they take to the Yankee Stadium for their debut MLS campaign.
"It's a whole new franchise here in New York," he added.
"We're trying to get the New Yorkers out, and instead of them going to another event we want to make them come out to Yankee Stadium and watch us play."
