Notts County striker Luke Rodgers has seen his move to New York Red Bull break down due to a failed work permit. The 28-year-old bid farewell to his team-mates and supporters after the recent home win over Lincoln but will now stay until the summer at least.
Notts manager Steve Cotterill told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I think he was embarrassed that he hadn't gone.
"But I'm glad he's not going because he's scored important goals for us."
Cotterill believes Rodgers could still join the Major League Soccer side in the summer if he is granted a work permit.
"I think they are still interested in signing him in the summer and he would obviously go with my blessing, but we won't know the answer to that for another four weeks," Cotterill added.
A move to the Red Bulls would see Rodgers link up with Hans Backe, who was in charge of the Magpies for nine games earlier this season.
