Norwich forward Murphy stars as MK Dons down Cardiff in cup

Josh Murphy was the star of the show as MK Dons defeated Cardiff City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night.

The 20-year-old forward joined the Championship club on loan from Norwich City on Friday and made an immediate impact for the Dons as they got the better of their second tier rivals 2-1 in the second round of the league cup.

The Bluebirds struck first through Alex Revell at Stadium:mk before Carl Baker sent the tie to extra-time when slotting home with just over 10 minutes remaining after Rob Hall's attempt from Murphy's cross had been saved.

Murphy, who started on the left side of an attacking five-man midfield, in front of defensive midfielder Diego Poyet (on loan from West Ham United) came up with the goods in the 108th minute when finding the back of the net after some strong build-up play from former Aston Villa youngster Samir Carruthers and Bolton loanee Hall.

Also on the pitch was Newcastle United winger Sammy Ameobi who went the full 90 minutes for the Bluebirds.

The winning goal continued an impressive run for Murphy in this competition having previously scored three goals in four appearances for the Canaries.

MK Dons will now look ahead to a home clash with Premier League side Southampton on the third round of the league cup which will take place in the week beginning September 21.

Murphy's twin brother Jacob also opened his account for loan club Coventry City recently with a stunning effort in the 2-1 loss at Walsall on the weekend.
