North Queensland win first pre-season clash over Adelaide

North Queensland Fury have won their first match, defeating Adelaide United 3-2 in Darwin last night. The new A-League franchise were 2-0 up thanks to goals from Jason Spagnuolo and Freddy Agius (both former Adelaide players) until the Reds fought their way back with a goal to Joe Cost before half-time and then an equaliser in the 50th minute through Alemao.

In the 60th minute, Agius gave his new side the ascendency, whipping a free-kick over the wall and into the back of the net, essentially sealing the victory.

Reds coach Aurelio Vidmar was not too happy with his team's performance.

"We need to go and do a fair bit of work. Even though we had players missing, that's no excuse," Vidmar said.

"Some of the basics were poor, sure the conditions were tough but that's all a part of what we're going to get confronted with in the A-League."
