North Queensland Fury's Payne: Everybody is up for a spot

North Queensland Fury recruit Chris Payne has revealed that every player on the list is up for a starting spot ahead of the new A-League season.

The 19-year old striker, who signed with the Fury from Sydney FC late last month, said that new coach Franz Straka had everybody fighting for a position during pre-season and believes it is healthy for the club.

"Everyone's fighting for their spot at the moment, so it's been really tough, training's been good and everyone is working hard," Payne told the Townsville Bulletin.

"Once you're on the pitch it's just the way you perform is hopefully how you'll get into the squad."

Payne is aware that he basically has to start again now that he is at a new club and was not particular about where he would play for the Fury.

"Of course it does, but it's like that at every club," he said. "No matter where you are at it's always going to be hard to get into a starting team ... that's football, I guess.

"I don't mind where I play ... but I would love to be starting and playing every minute, but I guess it's whatever is best for the team."
