Socceroos star Scott Chipperfield is the latest big name being bandied around by a new A-League franchise. It is believed that the North Queensland Fury are in hot pursuit of the FC Basel defender who cannot hold discussion with any other club until after January 1.

Fury coach Ian Ferguson revealed that Chipperfield is a wanted man in North Queensland.

"Scott's a player I think any league would like to have in their team, he's definitely one that I think's available for next season," Ferguson told the ABC.

"He's a player with experience in internationals. He's one of the big names of the game.

"Scott would be one of the players I would definitely try and attract to North Queensland."
