Nolan determined to make up for lost time at Newcastle

Kevin Nolan is ready to make his return for Newcastle United.

Nolan has missed Newcastle's last three games after being sent off for his horrific tackle on Everton forward Victor Anichebe but the midfielder is in the frame for the weekend's visit of Arsenal.

"It's been a tough couple of weeks, but I suppose you get what you deserve and that's what I got," said Nolan. "But it's given me a couple of weeks to work on a bit of an ankle problem I've had and I hope to come back fitter and stronger.

"It's also given me that bit extra time to settle and learn about the club and learn about the players. I've moved into a new home and, apart from the red card and suspension, everything is going well."

"I'm really looking forward to it and being available for selection has really put a spring in my step. But we've got a lot of lads back and it's nice to see the treatment table empty this week.

"Hopefully I'll get back into the team as soon as possible and start playing well and cement my place.

"Don't forget I was unbeaten in two-and-a-half games so that is something I can cling onto."

Nolan's experience should aid the Newcastle cause because the former Bolton skipper helped his old club successfully negotiate relegation scraps during the Sam Allardyce era.

"I've had a point to prove from the start, not only to the fans and other people but to myself," Nolan added. "I've had to adapt to a new lifestyle and not being around my family all of the time.

"But it's a challenge I'm looking forward to and this is a fantastic opportunity for me. Hopefully if I do get the chance I can prove my worth again because that's what it's all about now.

"It's going to be a tough next nine games, but we're really up for it and I think we'll come through with flying colours."
