Newcastle United midfielder Joey Barton insists he hasn't canned his England career.
Barton, 25, said: "No one is more patriotic than me. I'd love to play for England all the time.
"If I play to the level I think I'm capable of then they can't ignore me. I want to be part of the squad that goes to Euro 2008 - if we make it.
"There aren't many midfielders, barring Stevie Gerrard, Gareth Barry and Frank Lampard, who can compete with me. All I need is a chance."
Barton, just back from a broken foot, got his Three Lions debut against Spain in February. He said: "I felt I did more than enough in that 12 minutes to show I can play international football.
"I've got a lot to offer but if I'm not used I'll remain an international with one cap to cherish."
