Championship club Newcastle United want to sign Arsenal youngster Isaac Hayden, according to the Shields Gazette.

The 21-year-old defender spent last season on loan with Hull City and made 18 second tier appearances for the now promoted club.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez sees Hayden as a replacement for Steven Taylor, who is set to leave St James' Park this summer.

Hayden can play as a centre-back as well as a defensive midfielder.
