Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson feels his double against Aston Villa in October secured him a World Cup place.
Wilson struck the brace in front of England coach Gareth Southgate at the time.
He recalled to Behind the Game: "I knew he was coming because I'd had a phone call from the owner of Newcastle. It depends on your mentality, but for me, I think I would've rather have known because see the way you're raised and stuff, you're always the underdog.
"You're always the one that people put down and out, so I thought that I'd put on a show, I'm going to show Gareth what time it is basically.
"Before the game, I'd already decided if there was a pen, Southgate is there, he has to know he can bank on me in a pressure situation."
