Newcastle striker Isak on Cup win at Sunderland: Howe wanted to get back to basics

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak was delighted with his brace in their FA Cup win at Sunderland.

Isak admits Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wanted his players "to go back to basics" after a poor run of results.

He said: "We were talking about that (going back to basics), the energy and winning duels was going to be the most important thing.

"If we do that right with the quality we have in this team, it's going to go our way. It was an amazing day for the fans and we are all delighted. In these games, it is all about will and passion and who wants it more.

"I think on the day we wanted it a bit more and I think we showed that.

"We spoke about winning this game to give us a boost and turn our season around, also for the fans.

"We all know how important this is for the club and for all the people in the city. There were many wins today."
