Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle remains a target for West Brom.
But a return to the Hawthorns in the immediate future would only appear likely if the 30-year-old does not renew his contract with Newcastle before the end of the season, says the Evening Chronicle.
Gayle is out of contract at the end of the current campaign although he is highly rated by Magpies boss Steve Bruce and a new deal beyond this season isn't beyond the realms of possibility.
Gayle scored 24 goals while on-loan as West Brom narrowly missed out on promotion from the Championship in 2018/19, losing to Aston Villa on penalties in the play-off semi-finals.
