Newcastle UnitedAndy Carroll will not be fit in time for his side's upcoming clash against Liverpool.

The Magpies were hoping to welcome summer signing Carroll into the squad after the international break.

But he is still recovering from an ankle problem and will not be ready in time.

The 30-year-old is on a performance based deal at Newcastle, which means his salary is heavily incentivised based on appearances and goals.

Per the Daily Mail, Carroll is still working with physios and fitness coaches to get his conditioning to the required level.

He is not expected to make an imminent return to the senior squad.
