Newcastle United striker Shola Ameobi says the chance of playing in the World Cup for Nigeria has inspired him this season.

Ameobi struck in victory over Cardiff City on Saturday.

"We're excited to be playing against Messi and Sergio Agüero," he told the Evening Chronicle.

"It'll be a massive challenge for us but one we will relish.

"We also have Iran and Bosnia and hopefully we can get something."
