Newcastle United are believed to be showing considerable interest in Bordeaux's Cheick Diabate.

The 25-year old Malian striker could be the subject of a £5.8million (€7m) from the Magpies this January as they look to add a ninth player from France's Ligue 1 to their ranks.

Diabate, who has had loan spells at Ajaccio and Nancy since 2008, has netted six league goals for Les Girondins this season to make it 22 over the past two-and-a-half L1 campaigns.
