Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith will see out his contract playing on loan for MK Dons.
The 31-year old former Manchester United man was being heavily linked with another of his old clubs, Leeds United, but he has now signed a deal to join the League One Dons until the end of the season.
Smith said he had a good feeling when he visited Milton Keynes with his agent and is now looking forward to getting back to playing regularly after a few years in the football wilderness.
"You can take a sidewards step in the Premier League, go to a team in the Championship or come to a team in League One.
"I think this club has the potential, with or without me here, to get promoted this season.""You have feelings about places sometimes. When me and my agent came down last Monday we both got that feeling," the former England international told BBC Look East.
