Newcastle United have been dealt a blow with news that Siem de Jong will be sidelined for a few months.
The 25-year old Dutch attacking midfielder, who signed from Ajax for £6million in July, has sustained a thigh injury in training and is expected to be out until around December.
A Magpies spokesman said: "Siem de Jong sustained an injury to his right thigh in training earlier this week and is to be assessed further at the start of next week.
"Initial indications are that he is likely to be out for a number of months."
The injury comes at a horrible for Newcastle boss Alan Pardew who recently loaned playmaker Hatem Ben Arfa to Hull City for the season.
