Newcastle United are eager to make a quick January move for Kalvin Phillips.
The England midfielder is very much on the way out at Manchester City at present.
Phillips has barely featured for Pep Guardiola's side this term, even with Rodri serving a three-game suspension recently.
Per The Northern Echo, Newcastle believe Phillips can be a key squad player for manager Eddie Howe.
He would not be a guaranteed starter ahead of Bruno Guimarares or Sandro Tonali, but he would play often.
Newcastle are also in the Champions League, while they have ambitions of going deep in both English cup competitions.
