Newcastle United know they must up their bid for Lille fullback Mathieu Debuchy.
The Daily Star says Newcastle have had a £4m bid rejected by Lille, who are looking for £7m for the France right-back, 26.
Werder Bremen defender Sebastian Boenisch is viewed as an alternative.
