Steve McClaren has revealed that Newcastle United are extremely close to signing a new player.
The Magpies wrapped up a £14.7million deal for Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum last week and are now believed to be on the verge of landing another big name.
Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic and QPR star Charlie Austin continue to be heavily linked with the Toon and according to McClaren, perhaps one of the pair will be soon be on his way to St James' Park.
"The plans continue and work goes on behind the scenes back home," McClaren said from the club's pre-season tour of the USA.
"We're close.
"Wijnaldum comes out tomorrow and that will be good. We'll get him in with the boys.
"With recruitment we will wait and see.
"But from what I have saw in the last two weeks I have been very pleased with the boys."
