Newcastle United are scrambling to rescue a deal for Sochaux midfielder Sanjin Prcic.
Toon chiefs have been in talks with Sochaux over a fee for the 20 year-old Bosnia international. His Ligue 2 club had been seeking £2 million to sell.
Newcastle were understood to be competing with FC Twente for Prcic.
However, French sources claim Sochaux accepted a bid from Rennes for the youngster yesterday.
