Newcastle United are maintaining a watching brief on Andy Carroll's situation at West Ham United.
The Daily Star Sunday says new signings Diafra Sakho and Enner Valencia have become instant favourites with fans and are posing threats Carroll's long-term prospects.
Newcastle would jump at the chance to take back their favourite son - with West Ham ready take a big loss on the player they signing from Liverpool for £15million.
Carroll, 25, claims he is ready to fight for his future at Upton Park.
He has not played this season after ankle surgery following an injury on their pre-season tour of New Zealand.
Carroll missed much of last season with a heel injury.
