Newcastle United midfielder Alan Smith feels he could have another seven years in the game.
Smith is inside the final six months of his current deal.
He told The Sun: "People say 'why don't you move on?' But whenever I've spoken to the boss he's never told me he wants me to leave.
"I knocked on Alex Ferguson's door after coming back from breaking a leg. I told him I was ready to face Roma and started and scored in a 7-1 Champions League win.
"If I'm not staying at Newcastle, I want to find a club where I can make a difference, like a QPR where I could give them a bit of a push forward.
"I can still do a good job in the Premier League or the Championship - I just need that chance." "I've done the same to Alan Pardew. It worked with Sir Alex but it hasn't here but at United there's only one boss. I see Ryan Giggs still going strong. Maybe I can do another six or seven years like him.
