Newcastle midfielder Hayden: Carroll creates chaos

Isaac Hayden admits Newcastle United players are expecting big things from Andy Carroll.

The Geordie centre-forward made his first start in the top-flight for eight years in a Toon shirt and played a huge part in the victory against Sheffield United.

United are weighing up the best way to use him against Southampton, but Hayden knows there could be a lot more to come from the ex-Liverpool man.

Reflecting on Carroll's towering presence at Sheff United, Hayden told the Sunday Sun: "That's Andy for you - he spells chaos for the opposition in BOTH boxes.

"It's great to have him back, and he can do so much to help us have an exciting second half of the season.

"It is not just about goals with him, it's what he creates and the physical presence he gives us in both penalty areas.

"He knows how to use his body to get the better of defenders, and he draws fouls with his experience.

"Up front he's awesome because he's so big and strong.

"And, when he's defending in our 18-yard box, he's phenomenal there as well.

"Everyone knows that a fit Andy Carroll is a top quality striker."
