Newcastle midfielder De Jong still adjusting to Premier League

Newcastle United midfielder Siem De Jong has revealed that he is still adjusting to life in the English Premier League.

De Jong joined Newcastle at the start of last season but his debut campaign was curtailed due to a host of persistent injuries.

The former Ajax star has managed to put his injury woes behind him during the current season but has not yet been able to produce his best.

The Dutchman put in a poor display during the clash against Aston Villa last weekend, missing a sitter of a goal at the back post, and has now gone on to state that his form has not reached it's peak due to the fact that he has not yet adjusted to the Premier League.

He said: "Obviously it's tough for me (at the moment). These are my first few games in the Premier League. I'd only started one game before this run and it's still something I'm getting used to.

"I'm doing what I can to help the team. Of course I"m enjoying it, I'm happy to be on the pitch. I want to help the team as much as I can and I could have scored for 2-0 and I'm frustrated about not scoring, but I'm happy to be back and playing.

"This was a tough game on a tough pitch and I had a little bit of a cold so I couldn't play longer. Hopefully I can get 90 minutes in the coming weeks."
