Newcastle legend Shearer raps Man Utd striker Rooney over form

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has told Wayne Rooney his World Cup form has not been good enough.

The Manchester United striker has been a passenger in England's two group games so far.

Ahead of England's do-or-die clash with Slovenia, Shearer wrote in his column for The Sun: "I am one of Rooney's biggest fans but he would be the first to admit he has not produced yet and his outburst against the fans was a sign of his frustration. I am certain he will come good.

"But Rooney and the rest seem to be gripped by an anxiety and tension which is stifling their performance levels.

"Why? It is a question everyone is asking and I, for one, am struggling to find an answer.

"I am not privy to what is going on in the England camp but there seems to be a general feeling that it is quite a regimented structure."
