Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer says club owner Mike Ashley has let down the fans.

Shearer feels Ashley's lack of communication has not helped the mood of supporters.

He said: "We don't know what Mike Ashley is thinking or wants to do because nobody ever hears anything from him. It's been a desperately disappointing season again and we just hope they can get over the line and improve in the summer.

"I know we keep saying that but the fans up here need something to shout about.

"It's their life and what they go to work for."
