Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is chasing Reading goalkeeper Alex McCarthy.

The Mirror says several other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, have scouted McCarthy and Newcastle - also linked with PSV Eindhoven keeper Jeroen Zoet - are keen to bring him in to challenge Tim Krul, who missed much of last season through injury.

Reading will be keen to keep hot property McCarthy, but face a major battle this summer.
