The Newcastle Chronicle reports that Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Chelsea young gun Patrick Bamford.

Bamford, on loan at Middlesbrough this season, has scored 19 goals for the clubs and was last week voted Championship Player of the Year.

Bamford recently revealed that he would consider leaving Stamford Bridge to get more playing time which has alerted a number of Premier League clubs including Crystal Palace, Southampton, Everton and Aston Villa who the Magpies have joined for a potential transfer frenzy.

It has been widely reported that Bamford, 21, will go out on loan once again next season as he continues his development in a regular first team environment.
