Newcastle United are launching a £5 million bid for Chelsea midfielder Steve Sidwell.

The Sun says Sidwell would be a like-for-like replacement for Joey Barton, who faces talks with manager Kevin Keegan and managing director Derek Llambias on his release from prison.
