Newcastle Jets striker Sasho Petrovski has defended himself after missing a penalty in the Asian Champions League loss to Nagoya Grampus on Wednesday.
The former Sydney FC and Central Coast goal scorer had his spot kick saved in the 77th minute of what was a vital clash for the Jets who as a result sit in last position on the Group E table.
"Why is everyone pointing the finger at me?" Petrovski said on Thursday.
"Bigger players than me in world football have missed penalties.
"When I came on and earned the penalty, I thought I just had to take it.
"As I moved in, I changed and put my head down.
"I should have kept my head up. People are saying I hit it weakly. OK, I could have blasted it and missed the target. It's happened. It's over, but as far as people blaming me for the defeat, that's wrong."
