Newcastle Jets linked with Man Utd's Owen

Manchester United striker Michael Owen is being linked with a potential move to A-League outfit Newcastle Jets. Recent reports have suggested that the ambitious Jets are set to go after the former England international, with owner Nathan Tinkler to offer the 31-year old a massive cash deal as well as a thoroughbred race horse.

Owen is a known racing fanatic and Tinkler's role as owner of Patinack Farm ties in well with the rumours being floated around.

A Jets spokesman played down the speculation, which also includes Gold Coast United midfielder Jason Culina, saying that there was certainly no deal done at this point in time.

"I can definitely say that we have signed neither of those players,'' the source said.

''The other thing I would say is that we don't publicly discuss our negotiations.

''But we are always interested in good players, and it's fair to say we have cast a wide net.''

Owen has been finding it hard to get game time at Old Trafford as he waits in the queue behind Wayne Rooney, Dimitar Berbatov and new cult hero Javier 'Chicharito' Hernandez and could be keen on a complete change of environment, especially if it involves horse racing!
