Newcastle Jets coach Zane backs Taggart for World Cup

Newcastle Jets head coach Clayton Zane believes Adam Taggart should be given a chance by Australia at this year's World Cup.

The 20-year old striker netted his 11th goal of the A-League season in the Jets' 1-0 win over Melbourne Heart on the weekend prompting his boss to speak of his chances of making Ange Postecoglou's squad for Brazil.

"He has to be a bolter for Brazil, personally I would take that type of that player just to give him the experience because he's going to be around in the national set up for some time," Zane said after the win.

"The boy never stops finishing at training. All he wants to do is hit the back of the net. He's desperate to score goals.

"It's good for him to get a little run of goals leading into the finals, he's a very important player for us."

Former Socceroo Zane added: "Based on that performance today, he could find himself on the plane to Brazil.

"I'd love to see someone like Adam Taggart given the chance because he's been quite consistent this year."
