Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko has praised head coach John Carver after guiding the club to safety.
The French midfielder scored the opening goal as the Magpies defeated West Ham United 2-0 on Sunday to assure their Premier League status for next season.
Upon scoring the goal, Sissoko celebrated with Carver and he has since revealed that he wanted to thank the interim boss for the job he did under extreme duress.
"Yes it's true," Sissoko told the Chronicle.
"John Carver has had a hard season and all of the fans were angry with him.
"He tried to give his best."
Sissoko said: "On the pitch sometimes we showed some good things but altogether the West Ham game was great for us.
"We have to savour this game and look forward."
