Newcastle goalkeeper Dubravka feels for backup Darlow

Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka feels for teammate Karl Darlow in his backup role.

Dubravka's injury at Southampton opened up the door for Darlow to play in at least four or five matches in the Premier League plus the FA Cup clash against Manchester City.

Darlow came close to a Premier League appearance before the game with Sheffield United was postponed just 24 hours before kick off.

By the time football resumes, Dubravka will be fit again and ready to reclaim the gloves for the first team.

Dubravka told the Evening Chronicle: "We have had a conversation on the team group chat.

"I can understand his situation because he was ready to go back between the goal.

"I was ready to support him too because he's been fantastic with me since I came here with the support.

"At the same time, the virus pandemic arrived.

"I would be happy if we could have kept up the season and kept going (even while injured).

"But at the same time, I now have the time to get ready for the next game.

"It is more difficult for the keepers because only one can be on the pitch."
