Newcastle fullback Trippier: Thrashing PSG put a marker down

Newcastle United right-back Kieran Trippier was delighted at his team's 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

The Magpies enjoyed their first home Champions League game of the season, battering the French champions.

While PSG did have first half chances, Trippier believes the mentality and intensity of his teammates meant there was only going to be one winner on Wednesday.

Asked about the message among the players before the game, Trippier stated: "I think it was – we're playing at home, we need get the crowd behind us, and we play our game.

“We're a team who play on the front foot, we press well, we needed to do that against Paris. We needed to test their defenders and the keeper under pressure."

On the result itself, he told Canal+: "It was a great game. As you know, 20 years since the last game for Newcastle in the Champions League.

“We had to put a marker down to show everyone where we are, and I think we competed with one of the best teams in Europe."
