Newcastle United defender Davide Santon has been released from the Italy U21 squad due to injury.
Santon was diagnosed with a first degree lesion to the left thigh after pulling up in training.
The Italian has been ruled unfit for friendlies against Russia on Friday and Ukraine next Monday.
