Newcastle United fullback Daryl Janmaat insists they didn't deserve their derby defeat to Sunderland.

Adam Johnson struck the winner in injury-time.

Janmaat told talkSPORT: "For me it's the first derby so it's the first loss but I know we had lost the last [three]. It's unbelievable because I think we were the better team but that's football.

"We didn't play [our] best today but we didn't deserve to lose.

"It's a hard defeat [to take]. I think in the second half we were better than the first and we had some good chances but we have to score one."
