Newcastle United have entered the race for Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to Portuguese daily O Jogo.

The Portugal international, who reportedly has a £39m release clause, is expected to leave Sporting this summer.

The likes of Arsenal and Man City are also keeping tabs on the Euro 16 winner, but the latest report suggests that the Magpies are the current favourites in the pursuit of the 25-year-old.
