Newcastle United may have to up their offer for FC Twente striker Luuk de Jong.

Toon have tabled a bid of £8 million for the Dutchman.

The Evening Chronicle says it is believed United could have to increase their initial bid to prise De Jong away from Steve McClaren's side.

De Jong said: "I know there are a number of clubs interested in me.

"I have a three-year contract with Twente, but if an interesting offer comes then I will certainly think about it."
