Newcastle United face a battle to land Lille fullback Mathieu Debuchy.

The Evening Chronicle says Inter Milan are the ones making bigger strides in an attempt to hijack the Newcastle deal, which has been on the cards for several months since chief scout Graham Carr alerted manager Alan Pardew to one of Europe's best right-backs.

Debuchy's price tag has now risen from the original £4m million to £6million.
