Newcastle United have cooled reports linking them with former Bayern Munich star Bruno Labbadia.

The Evening Chronicle says German media sources suggest United had made an approach to the out-of-work 48-year-old.

However sources on Tyneside say there has been no communication with the coach.

Labbadia, a striker who netted 204 goals in 557 league games in his career, has also managed Greuther Fürth, Bayer Leverkusen and Hamburg.
