Newcastle defender Trippier: Impossible to speak to ref

Newcastle United fullback Kieran Trippier felt it was impossible to speak to the referee in Paris after their game against PSG.

The Magpies had to settle for a 1-1 draw in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Despite being ahead for much of the game, a controversial late Kylian Mbappe penalty for a dubious handball resulted in PSG earning a point.

Trippier said after the game on the referee: "I mean it's not like he would talk to me, there's nine players around him. So it's difficult for him.

"I get it for officials, it's hard because there's players around, I get it, it is difficult. But you know, it's one of those where I'm standing here, discussing the decisions, why can't officials?

"Why can't the referee come out and explain why he gave that penalty, for example, just to give all the supporters, the media, yourselves a more clear indication of why he gave the penalty.

“Players get stuck here and answer questions, but why can't officials – it doesn't get spoken about enough. It is not spoken about enough."
