Newcastle United defender Matt Targett is targeting his international debut this season.
Targett believes he can still prove he is good enough to win an England cap - but has also told Scotland he won't close the door on them.
Steve Clarke wanted to call Targett up last spring after he impressed in a Newcastle shirt following his move from Aston Villa. But Targett - who has represented England and Scotland at youth level - is keen to try to impress Gareth Southgate before making any final decisions.
When asked about his international aspirations, Targett told Chronicle Live: "I don't want to close the door on either really. I am open.
"My first choice would be England and that's something I am looking forward to, it's something I believe I can reach, that level. At the moment that is the target."
