Newcastle defender Coloccini confident of survival and upholding captaincy duties

Fabricio Coloccini is supremely confident that Newcastle United will not be relegated this season.

The Magpies currently sit 18th on the Premier League table, equal on points with Norwich City, who hold the final safety position in the standings.

With 12 league fixtures remaining in the campaign, Newcastle are still with every chance of avoiding the drop and the Argentine defender believes that can be achieved by putting some point-yielding games together.

"I'm positive about that (survival)," Coloccini said when asked about Newcastle's situation.

"We have good quality. We need to take a few points and win a few games.

"If we do, we will be okay."

Regarding his own position as captain, which has been questioned in recent times, Coloccini insists he is aware of the responsibilities that come with the role he has held since 2011.

"Of course, of course," he added.

"All I can do is just try to play and give 100 per cent every game and try to get points."
