Newcastle defender Burn: Champions League already forcing Prem improvement

Newcastle United defender Dan Burn admits his side had a point to prove at Sheffield United when they won 8-0.

The Magpies appear back on track in the Premier League after dismal early season form.

Burn points to their tough draw against AC Milan in the Champions League as giving them motivation for the game against the Blades a few days later.

Burn told The Monday Night Club: "I think so, I think it's probably been there since the start of the season. I think it's different when the season we had last season, to overachieve in my eyes and make the Champions League, it's then about going again and proving it's not just a one season thing.

"You've got to go again and I think it was that. I know there'll be little bits of talk in the media that we'd be concentrating too much on the Champions League and you've got four competitions to be competing in.

"I think our mentality internally has always been that we'll attack every single game and it was really important to get three clean sheets in a row. I know obviously the Champions league game doesn't count for the Premier League, but for us to be solid again, which we'd conceded quite a few goals which was unlike us, so it was a nice thing."
