Newcastle United development chief Peter Beardsley believes their youngsters will benefit from their new loans.

United have loaned out youngsters like Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson in recent days to Middlesbrough and Birmingham City respectively.

But Beardsley thinks they will come back stronger for it, and told the Evening Chronicle: "In my day we had Lee Clark, Watto (Steve Watson), and Robbie Elliott who were part of a second-tier team.

"They had to take a step back and come forward again. That's what Sammy and Tav will have to do. This new group of players has given us extra strength to go forward."
