Reading striker Shane Long is attracting major Premier League interest.
The Daily Mail says Newcastle watched Long impress against Macedonia and Uruguay for Ireland in the last week, but will face competition from Wolves, Aston Villa, West Ham and Stoke.
Long was one of few positives for Ireland as they slumped to a 3-2 friendly defeat to Uruguay.
He has scored 21 goals for Championship club Reading in all competitions this season.
