Newcastle boss Pardew wants youngsters to step up

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is expecting big things from his first and second year players this season.

Pardew will now ask the likes of Romain Amalfitano, James Tavernier, Gael Bigirimina and Curtis Good to step up to the plate - while he is also hoping for bigger and better performances from Sylvain Marveaux, Gabriel Obertan, Sammy Ameobi and Dan Gosling.

The LMA and Premier League manager of the year told the Evening Chronicle: "Romain has had a quiet start but Sylvain is starting to show what he has.

"Not all players progress the same way.

"Obertan has been here a year and probably gave us his best performance on Thursday. Players progress at different times. We still have plenty in the background. Sammy Ameobi is another year down the line and it's another year for Fergie.

"Neither of them have been included yet.

"We still have players to come in too. Mehdi Abeid is another one."
