Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew is delighted for Jack Colback over his England call-up.
Pardew believes the player's decision to swap Wear for Tyne has been a factor in Roy Hodgson's decision.
"I think Jack's ticked a couple of boxes here that are important to the England manager," said Pardew, who reckons Colback is the spit of 1966 World Cup legend Alan Ball.
"He has moved to local rivals and handled it well and then he has come into our team and played well so the move has had a part to play.
"But you have to put this all at Jack's door because he's been terrific.
"When he signed, I said you can play for England but I'm not so sure he believed me.
"He's not a super-confident guy that would say 'yeah, I'll play for England'. We've got a couple of players here who would do that and they've got no chance!
"He's the complete opposite, conservative in his approach though he doesn't play like that.
"But I didn't think it would come as quickly as this."
